Fellowship Overview
The fellowship program at Stony Brook University consists of advanced training in microsurgery, encompassing all aspects of the surgical management of male infertility, as well as the medical management of male reproductive science. Additionally, the fellow will have the opportunity to gain skills in office-based/outpatient surgical treatment of male factor infertility. The training will also include advanced techniques in the management of hypogonadism, sexual dysfunction, Peyronie’s disease, and genitourinary reconstruction. The goal of the fellowship is to provide a foundation in both academic and clinical expertise to prepare for a career in male reproductive medicine and surgery. The fellow will have 60% clinical time (3 days per week) and 20% research time (1 day per week). There will be 6-10 surgical cases per week (2 days per week), and 2-3 clinical days per week, with an average of 35-50 patients per day. The fellow will be required to spend a 2-week rotation with REI, including work in the office, andrology lab, and embryology lab.
The fellow will lead a monthly journal club, which includes a multidisciplinary group of Men’s Health practitioners. This will also include a quarterly joint journal club with REI. The fellow will attend departmental grand rounds and participate in resident education to teach residents and medical students. Additionally, the fellow will have the opportunity to work at the Northport VAMC as an attending physician in General Urology.
