Fellowship Overview
Fellowship Overview & Scope: This fellowship aims to provide qualified candidates with the opportunity to devote dedicated clinical, operative, and scholarly efforts toward male genital reconstruction, prosthetic surgery, sexual medicine, and gender transition-related surgery (TRS). Fellows will learn to provide surgical care within an ambulatory, outpatient surgical environment. This fellowship is structured to provide close collaborative training opportunities with both plastic surgery and urologic oncology at Women’s College Hospital. Fellows will also be part of the TRS interdisciplinary team, which comprises surgery, anesthesiology, pelvic physiotherapy, social work, nursing, and administration. Scheduled rotations at partnering hospitals will be arranged according to individual fellows’ educational goals.
On a weekly basis, it is anticipated that fellows will have the opportunity for:
• 3 days in the main OR
• ½ day of minor surgery
• 1–2 clinic days
• 1 day of research time
Genital Reconstruction Surgery: Penile prosthesis (primary implantation & revision), penile curvature correction – Peyronie’s disease & congenital (prosthesis, modeling, plication & grafting), testis implants, adult hypospadias repair, orchidopexy, vasal reconstruction, vasectomy, primary & revision circumcision, ventral phalloplasty, and buried penis correction—with prosthesis as indicated.
Transition-Related Surgery: Penile inversion vaginoplasty, metoidioplasty, testis & penile prosthesis placement, orchiectomy, scrotectomy, endoscopic urethral stricture management, and management of vaginoplasty and phalloplasty complications.
Sexual Medicine: Testosterone deficiency & replacement, Peyronie’s disease (collagenase & verapamil injections), and the full spectrum of assessment and treatment of male and female sexual dysfunction.
Research
Fellows will have the opportunity to collaborate with national and international research teams in genital reconstruction and prosthetic surgery to identify and implement programmatic research initiatives. They are expected to submit and present their research at national and international educational meetings, publish their work in peer-reviewed journals, and apply for research funding.
