Learning Objectives
The fellowship in Male Infertility and Sexual Health aims to equip trainees with comprehensive expertise in diagnosing, managing, and treating male reproductive health issues. Fellows will develop proficiency in advanced diagnostic techniques, including semen analysis, hormonal evaluation, genetic testing, and imaging modalities pertinent to male infertility. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on experience in microsurgical procedures, such as varicocelectomy, vasectomy reversal, and testicular sperm extraction. Additionally, the program covers the management of sexual dysfunctions, including erectile dysfunction, Peyronie's disease, and hypogonadism. Fellows will engage in multidisciplinary collaboration, research, and patient education to foster a holistic approach to male reproductive health, ensuring they emerge as leaders in the field.
Curriculum
The one-year fellowship program in Male Infertility and Sexual Health is designed to provide comprehensive training in the diagnosis, workup, and treatment of male reproductive and sexual health issues. The curriculum focuses on understanding the causes of male infertility, including hormonal imbalances, genetic abnormalities, varicoceles, and obstructive azoospermia. Fellows will gain expertise in diagnostic techniques such as semen analysis, hormonal evaluation, genetic testing, and imaging modalities. The program emphasizes both medical and surgical treatments, including hormone therapy, microsurgical varicocelectomy, vasectomy reversals, and microsurgical testicular sperm extraction (microTESE).
Additionally, the fellowship addresses the causes, workup, and treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) and Peyronie's disease. Fellows will learn to identify common etiologies of ED, such as vascular insufficiency, neurological disorders, and psychological factors, and will be trained in diagnostic evaluations, including penile Doppler ultrasound and nocturnal penile tumescence testing. Treatment modalities will cover pharmacotherapy, penile prosthesis implantation, and other surgical interventions. For Peyronie's disease, the curriculum includes the assessment of penile curvature, plaque characterization via ultrasound, and both medical and surgical treatments, including collagenase injections and surgical correction techniques. This comprehensive training ensures fellows are well-equipped to manage complex cases in male infertility and sexual health.
