SMSNA Fellowship Training Program Grant for Women in Prosthetic Urology

The application period for the 2024 SMSNA Fellowship Training Program Grant for Women in Prosthetic Urology is currently closed.

The SMSNA Foundation is committed to developing future leadership in prosthetic urology and has established and SMSNA Fellowship Training Program in Prosthetic Urology.

The SMSNA Fellowship Training Program Grant for Women in Prosthetic Urology provides institutional funding of up to $70,000 for training of a post-graduate MD who identifies as female and is seeking to develop expertise in the evaluation and surgical management of erectile dysfunction and male stress urinary incontinence.

Award period is July 1, 2024 - June 30, 2025

Eligibility Information
Institutional/Fellowship Director must be a Member of the SMSNA

The Fellow must identify as female and have completed a general urological residency within the last three years and be an SMSNA member or have submitted a membership application. Preference will be given to a Fellow who has participated in surgical cadaver labs, has presented abstracts at an SMSNA Meeting, and is eligible for American Board of Urology certification or its equivalence in Canada.

Submission Requirements
The application requires the following documentation:
Institution or Fellowship Director

  • Letter of request

  • Comprehensive Program Description

  • Proposed Budget*

  • Disclosure of additional funding received (if applicable)

  • CV

  • Surgical case logs for 12 months preceding application

*Grant Funds are to be used to directly support salary and employees benefits (e.g., health, dental, vision coverage). The hosting institution may supplement this funding, but SMSNA is strictly bound by the parameters of its grant funding. Funds may not be used for any other purpose (e.g., overhead, indirect expenses). The hosting institution must provide medical liability insurances as outlined by governance of the hospital and the state board of medicine.

Fellow or Fellow Candidate

  • Written statement of interest and commitment to a career in prosthetic urology

  • CV/biography/headshot

  • Letter of recommendation from the fellowship program director

  • Letter of recommendation from one additional SMSNA member

Application Review and Selection Process
Applications are competitive and open to all SMSNA Select Programs and candidates in the geographic region of SMSNA and in the therapeutic area of Prosthetic Urology. All applications will be received and scored by members of the SMSNA Grant Committee and approved by the SMSNA and SMSNA Foundation Board of Directors.

Payment Information
Awards will be paid to the sponsoring institution (medical school, hospital, university). Awards will not be paid directly to the Fellow or mentor. Funds will be dispersed in two installments, the first payment in July and the second in January of the following year. The SMSNA Foundation does not withhold taxes (i.e., federal withholding, social security, local or state taxes, etc.). It is the responsibility of the recipient and hosting institution to ensure that appropriate federal and local taxes.

Reporting Requirements
The recipient will be required to provide both a Mid-Year Report and a Year-End Report. The Mid-Year Report is due on or before January 9, 2025. The Year-End Report is due within 30 days of the end of the academic year. Report template will be provided.
