Conflict of Interest & Ethics

The Conflict-of-Interest (COI) and Ethics Committee ensures adherence to the SMSNA’s Conflict-of-Interest Policy by reviewing disclosures from the Board of Directors, Committee Chairs, and Past Presidents. The committee is also responsible for reviewing reported ethics violations, including but not limited to legal infractions or breaches of medical ethics, adhering to the procedures outlined in the society’s bylaws. Key responsibilities include reviewing and recommending updates to the COI and Ethics Policies, conducting annual reviews of submitted disclosures, verifying consistency with U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Open Payments Data, and serving as the Ethics Review Board when necessary.
